Duke of Edinburgh
Kesteven and Grantham Girls' School is now a Directly Licenced Centre (DLC), delivering the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award scheme to all interested students in Year 8 prior to starting their journey in Year 9. It is a way to challenge individuals and broaden their horizons. As the late Duke said, "There’s more to you than you think.” It is a non-competitive scheme with three levels, the Bronze, Silver and Gold Award. Each Award has four sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skill and Expedition. The Gold Award has an additional fifth section; Residential.
A registration fee of £50 is payable via MCAS. This covers administration costs, kit and accessories and is non-refundable. On receipt of payment and completion of the enrolment form, the DofE Manager will then register all participants onto the Award scheme.
Please note: there will be an additional charge for practise and assessed expeditions (reviewed annually and kept to a minimum).
The DofE Award is a challenging programme of activities which will help each participant develop new skills, grow in confidence to help others and experience adventures. Achievements are widely recognised in education and employment. The school supports the participant in many ways, for example through training and information sessions with advice and encouragement to help each individual stay focused and on track to achieve their Award.
All DofE paperwork is dealt with by the DofE Manager, Mrs Laura Robins. She will monitor progress through each section and is available throughout the day offering support and encouragement. The Award Verifier in school is Mrs K Edwards. She checks and verifies all awards, ensuring all requirements have been met prior to presentation of the certificate and badge to the participant. All details can be found on the DofE notice board in the North Corridor in school.
